Setting
Up a Program for Your Child and You
| |
We
have found over time that the younger the child
is the easier it is to treat. The more experience
the child has with feeding issues, the harder
it is to correct.
We work with the child as much as needed. We tailor
our protocols according to the needs of your child,
as well as to the parent. Some parents have to
travel long distances, and that is sometimes a
consideration for the particular parent.
Day
Feeding Program
Typically
we would like to see a child three times a week.
Most problems can be corrected in no more than
4-6 weeks. Some take less, some more. It all depends
on the case.
Intensive
Feeding Program
This
program is 5 days per week with three meals per
day. The program length is 4-6 weeks.

Working
with Other Disciplines
| |
The
first step is always determining whether a child
can safely eat. In order to do this several tests
such as the MBS, endoscopy, allergy testing, nutritional
analysis, etc. must be taken into account. Once
these issues are resolved, the rest falls onto
the consultant to structure meals to increase
oral intake to meet the caloric needs determined
by a nutritionist.
We
have some of these disciplines in-house, and we
do work with outside professionals, or with people
already following the child's history.
The
consultants are the ones who design protocols
to meet the specific needs of your child. This
of course
is done taking evaluations of other disciplines
in mind.
Whether allergies, tube cuts, or aspiration: all
variables play a part in how the protocols are
designed to effectively higher PO intake in a
safe manner, while decreasing problematic behaviors
that hinder proper mealtime behavior. |
