Stories at The Los Altos Feeding Clinic
Rachel was three years old with an
unremarkable medical history. She refused all food and
would only drink limited amounts of Pediasure. After
five weeks at the Los Altos Feeding Clinic, she was
consuming over 20 different foods. She was taking in
amount of food and liquids as determined by her nutritionist.
She also now self-feeds all of her meals.
Matthew
was a ninth month old boy who was failure to
thrive. He had severe reflux, vomiting, and severe refusal
behavior. A G tube was recommended prior to attending
the Los Altos feeding Clinic. After six weeks at the
clinic he had no food refusal and was eating 8 oz of
food per meal. Each meal averaged 15 minutes in duration.
He no longer needed a G tube placement.
Leon
was a 19 month old who was failure to thrive.
He was diagnosed with Kabuki Syndrome, reflux, vomiting,
risk of aspiration and severe food refusal. After a
week and a half, he was safely taking in 6 oz of food
three times daily and had gained 7 oz within that time.
Michael
was a three year old male with an unremarkable
medical history. He was only eating a limited amount
of crackers and yogurt. After four weeks at the Los
Altos Feeding clinic, he was self-feeding a balanced
diet that comprised of more than 20 different foods.
Three months later he began to move up in texture and
is now eating turkey sandwiches, pizza, whole veggies,
among other things.
Jennifer
was a two year old female who had a G tube
placement was receiving 40% of her caloric needs by
mouth. She was bottle dependent as well as having severe
reflux. After four weeks at the Los Altos Feeding Clinic
she was getting 100% of her nutritional needs by mouth.
Robert
was a 5 year old who was diagnosed with austism.
His medical history was unremarkable, except for some
seasonal allergies. His only nutritional sustanance
was drinking milk and soy milk. These were mixed with
baby formula or Ovaltine. He would only drink these
liquids by bottle and would not accept any solids. After
three weeks of therapy, he was consuming eight ounces
of milk by cup and eating a variety of foods (12 oz)
by spoon each meal without any food refusal.
James
was a four year old diagnosed with reflux,
22Q11 chromosome deletion, and Velo Cardio Facial Syndrome,
oral aversions, and sensory integration problems. He
underwent a Nissen Fundoplication and a G tube placement
at 3 weeks of age. James had VSD and ASD repair at 5
months of age. He had a modified barium swallow study
at 11 months that indicated that he was not at risk
for aspiration anymore. At 18 months ear tubes were
placed. He had been through various therapies in the
past three years prior to attending the Los Altos Feeding
Clinic and was still was 100% G tube dependent. Within
two weeks of therapy James was taking 8 oz of food and
six oz of liquid by mouth. At that point his tube was
no longer used. He gained four pounds in the next four
weeks. Three months after leaving this clinic James
had his stoma closed.
Shannon
was a 4 year old girl who was G Tube dependent
since birth. Her medical history included a short bowel
and chronic lung disease. Before the start of her treatment,
Shannon was only taking two teaspoons at most at each
meal. After four weeks of treatment Shannon was taking
all her caloric needs by mouth.
Max
was an 18 month old child who was diagnosed
as failure to thrive. He had an NG tube and his physician
was recommending a G Tube. He was only eating small
amounts of food through a syringe, had some refusal
behavior, vomiting issues, and reflux. After one week
of intensive treatment, Mark no longer needed his NG
tube and his food refusal was significantly decreased.
His parents and caregivers were also trained to feed
him according to the protocol developed for him at the
Los Altos Feeding Clinic.
Nathan
was a nine year old boy who ate a limited variety
of foods. He was diagnosed with dyslexia and had sensory
integration problems. He would only consume waffles,
peanut butter sandwiches, granola bars, yogurt, milk
chicken nuggets, popcorn and french fries. Any other
foods would cause gagging and subsequent vomiting. After
three weeks of therapy, he ate fish, beef, pork, a variety
of fruits and veggies, among other things that his family
typically ate during meals.
